Patriots claims 1st CPL Title

CPL 2021

CPL 2021 ended with a pulsating final in which St Kitts and Nevis Patriots beat St Lucia Kings by three wickets off the last ball of the match. The tournament had several established stars doing well, but the sparkling new talent gave it an extra sheen. Sifting those players down to the XI who would make up the team of the tournament meant leaving some performers out, as is inevitably the case.

In a nerve-wracking finish on Wednesday, 23-year old Dominic Drakes emerged as the new hero, as he produced an audacious death-hitting display, to help the Patriots hunt down 160 off the very last ball. With that, the Patriots also completed the highest successful chase in a CPL final. Bravo added that it was the opportunity and backing given to these players that helped them perform under pressure.

With this trophy, Bravo has won the joint-most T20 titles – the other one at the top being his West Indies captain Kieron Pollard. Ahead of the season, Bravo was added to patriots from Trinbago Knight Riders, with whom he had won the title in 2020 – the year Patriots finished at the bottom of the table.

Before the start of the season, Bravo had said that he needed a “new challenge” and that he wanted to nurture young talent. On the day, it was mostly youngsters who had stepped up for the team: Drakes with his 24-ball 48 not out, and Naseem Shah and Fabian Allen with their tidy spells.

As Bravo quoted “All I asked the guys was to back each other – It doesn’t matter whether we perform or not, play or not play, let’s stay tight, let’s stay together”.

UEFA Champions League: Messi, Neymar, Mbappe still PSG held on a Draw by Brugge.

UEFA Champions League – PSG’s Big Star Fails.

For the 1st time, the “Big 3” Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe started a game together for PSG. They were up against the underdogs Club Brugge as they opened their UCL 2021/22 campaign. However, all did not go as planned as they were held to a 1-1 draw by the Belgium club.

The first goal came in the 15th minute as Ander Herrera sloshed a sublime shot from a ball by Kylian Mbappe. Brugge found the equalizer in the 27th minute as the shot from Vanaken took a huge deflection by Kimpembe and the ball finds its way inside the net. PSG’s problem kept increasing as Mbappe had to be substituted due to an injury and Icardi came on. The Argentinian had an amazing chance to go ahead but he missed the ball completely from close range.

PSG’s formidable attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé was left frustrated by a spirited Club Brugge on Wednesday in a 1-1 draw in the Champions League.
